What is EVV?
Electronic Visit Verification is a system for tracking work performed, hours, notes, accurate location information and much more about the patient-caregiver interaction, including information about the service provider.
EVV applies to care and health services rendered in the home. States are required to implement EVV for all Medicaid personal care services and home health services that require an in-home visit by a provider.
Eventually, all care agencies providing care to people in their own homes will be required to operate EVV tracking.

- Date of service

How does EVV work?
Caregivers information is sent via an EVV App from a mobile phone or through voice notification from a patient’s landline.
SMARTcare’s easy-to-use software has been designed by providers to make this process simple, improving workflow and ensuring the recording of essential information about each care visit is straightforward and efficient.
Caregivers simply follow the workflow of the mobile App on their mobile phone. In the background, the EVV is checking their location to the registered client’s location and using geofencing determining if the caregiver is indeed where they say they are to deliver care. The system records this and also alerts the office if there is an issue.

What is Alternative EVV?
An alternative EVV system is an EVV data collections software system that is not provided or specified by an individual State department of health services. Alternative systems are typically found in only those States that have chosen a “Closed” model (non-open market) for implementing the Medicaid EVV mandate of the 21st Century Cures Act.
In this situation, home care providers can choose to use their preferred software supplier as an alternate to the State’s EVV chosen system.
The home care providers chosen EVV provider will collaborate with States EVV system provider to complete testing and verify data transition.
